More than 9,000 Kentuckians a year earn a GED, and it's accepted as equal to a high school diploma by almost all companies and colleges in the country.

More than 60 percent of GED test-takers intend to further their education. Passing the GED with an average score of 500, ranks you in the top 50% and lets colleges know you have the skills and knowledge to succeed.

You may still be required to take additional tests, such as the ACT    or the SAT    as part of the admissions process. You should contact the college’s admissions office    to find out what requirements they have.

And once you've gotten a GED, if you decide to go to college, you're eligible for financial aid, similar to a high school graduate.
